Has anyone travelled to Greece, with their California, using the Italy to Greece Ferry? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Any details about which ferries to use or avoid?

Avoid going from June to September, we did it in our Bongo two years ago in July and it was far too hot for camping. We plan to go back next easter in our new Cali

I took the Anek Patra - Ancona (SUPERFAST VI) a couple of years ago. I think the website didn't translate or something so we booked our tickets in one of the travel agencies in Athens or Patra last minute. We went economy which was sleeping on deck, bit of an adventure but friendly atmosphere. Worth taking a blow-up matress!

We were on tour in Greece in July/August, we travelled for the weather  our preference was to sleep in the awning on sites we were staying more than a day, much cooler than the van and easier to take the van out for a trip. The nights we did sleep in the van we just left the side door open if too hot.

Not sure when you are travelling but here goes:
Cheapest method is 'camping on board' where you pay for the van and deck fares. gives you access to 230v, showers and toilets and by key, provided, to the public areas. Most popular route is Ancona to Igoumenitsa or Patras. We use Anek/Superfast. For years I have booked online via Paleologos travel and never had a problem. Cost to Igou/Patras is the same so you might want to decide whether you're heading South or East on arrival.
Lots more info if you need it ...
Have a great time especially as October has arrived early here. Dyddi

Thanks all. :thanks

Reviving an old thread. Has anyone else ventured to Greece over the last 6 years? Assuming the world is similar to the one we knew 6 months ago we might head down at the start of September. Ancona is the preferred destination for the ferry.
The questions are:
Any ideas regarding the route to Ancona, countries, areas, campgrounds? (We're not in a rush)
Once in the Peloponnese are there any specific destinations that we should head for?
Thanks a million
PS Welsh Gas did you make it?
No, went North instead. Would have just come back from Nordkapp, my 4th trip to Norway, if it hadn’t been for Corvid19.

We entered Greece on 7 February 2018 on the Brindisi to Igoumenitsa ferry. An overnight cabin was worth the money.

We left Greece for Bulgaria on 18 March, so had just under 6 weeks in Greece.

Main places we visited were the Peloponnese, Argos and the Pelion Peninsular. However, it was in interim campsite on the way to the Peloponnese that we enjoyed most (Aginara Beach) and the Pelion Peninsular (Camping Sikia). It was certainly nicer travelling off season.
