I'd like to drop an air conditioner into the rear skylight opening on my 600 (same as if it had come with AC from the factory). Does anyone know the Dometic model number appropriate for the GC? Also, a VW dealer in Germany told me that I would need to obtain the unit and installation from a Dometic RV specialist rather than a VW dealer. Any advice? (I don't really see a need to integrate the AC unit into the control panel if that complicates things. I can simply operate it manually.) Thanks!

Hi,

according to members from the German board it's a Dometic Freshjet 1700.

One member did the installation himself. If you have access its post #35
here https://www.caliboard.de/topic/27074-dachklima-nachrüsten/page/3/
In fact he installed it on an other position of the roof , but he is quite happy with it.

Bart... my hero.

Big thanks, as always. Greetings and good wishes from Sarajevo.

Does anyone know if the opening in the roof for the rear skylight is the same size as the opening for the Dometic Freshjet 1700? Or does VW cut a smaller hole when the GC is ordered with AC.

Hi,

I thought I saw somewhere in the German board that the opening is not the same, but I am not sure .I can try and find the information if you want.
but
One member of the German board , with a GC 600, had a very interesting solution he integrated the Dometic Freshjet 1700 between the front and the rear skylight.

Because I am not allowed to copy pictures from the German board to this board
you can register to caliboard.de (no costs) .

Here the link from #35 . You need to register to see the pictures I believe .

This member made some very good pictures of the integration and a detailed description.

There are more pictures from inside.

I just found the info :
-the opening in the roof of the rear skylight is 50x60 cm
-the opening for a Dometic Freshjet is 40x40 cm .
For a replacement you need to close the rest opening 10x20cm:eek:

I joined that forum and was able to see his clever installation. It's actually an ideal placement but I have a satellite dish (which I could remove I guess) plus I'd have to find someone as talented as he to do the job. I'm going to take the van to a Dometic dealer to see if with their adaptor plate the unit can fit in the rear skylight. Or perhaps there is a larger unit (maybe another brand) that would. I'm not too optimistic.

Thanks, as always...

his installation is very clever but you need quit handy "to make the cut ."
In your case with a satellite I also think the best thing on the moment is to ask a Dometic dealer.
