My van seems to have developed a rather annoying fault which is that when I unlock remotely (via the key) I need to press the unlock at least twice for it to unlock the side door. Not sure when this started happening although I am half expecting someone to tell me it's a "feature"
anyway, how do I get it back to normal please?
thanks ever so much
EDIT - just checked - it also only works (unlocks sliding door) in close proximity to the van -
EDIT 2 - checked with a different key and the issue remains
Hi KP,
great to see you're still here.
Immaculate timing as this has just happened to me . Happened on my previous T5.1 & T5 !!!
The issue is most probably with the sliding door lock actuator.
In cold weather they seem to play up more than when it's warm, but they do play up!
I think it's the OEM lubricant used in the mechanism which becomes less pliable when cold, which affects the lock mechanism.
Previously Mine had been playing up on unlock particularly in cold weather. (To be clear this is Not the Bowden cable issue as in T6.1 )
Coupled with this: look carefully at the Red LED on the drivers door, when locking the Van take note :
If there is an issue, it changes the normal sequence of flashes when locking the van !
The locks are "self checked" before applying the Alarm (similar to a boot sequence on a computer). When the system has checked, in sequence, each component and its confirms all locks, windows etc are closed (according to the sensors) the Alarm(s) are applied.
if the system self check throws up a potential fault, it shows initially on the LED flashing pattern when closing the door. (Note this closely).
For instance under normal circumstances, locking the van, the Red LED will flash rapidly approximately 6 times, (should do)
if the locks are deemed to be operating normally, the LED will immediately start the normal slow periodic flash sequence (every few seconds as is normal) , showing the Alarm is on and fully operational.
If there is an issue: after the initial rapid half a dozen flashes:
the alarm either hold solid red
or
carries on blinking rapidly or at a different rate to the "Normal alarm on flash"
this will "problem" state LED flash, will continue for a period of time,(anything from a few seconds to a few minutes)
after which the LED reverts to a Normal "Alarm on" type pattern , (presumably this is so no third party knows there is an issue with the locking / Alarm purely by looking at the LED pattern, which would be a security risk)
The Red LED issue may be present without the lock actually failing to open! This is still a sign of a potentially problematic issue and should be checked out by reading the codes.
There may / can be fault codes stores as a result of the Lock / Alarm issue.
VW read mine and advised a fault code existed, (I don't have the code) similarly they had the lock fail to open whilst In the work shop.
I had this LED & locking issue previously and VW replaced the lock actuator under warranty. (Factory warranty extension )
The replacement loc is now exhibiting the same issue, not unlocking and RED led hokding solid for a few minutes after locking, before the normal Flashing mode resumes. (VW replace it under All in warranty).
The cost for VW dealer to replace the lock actuator it ridiculous (circa £700) !
If you are outside warranty it can be fixed by removing the sliding door car and flooding the actuator with light oil spray (Not wd40 ). You may need to drill a small hole in the top of the plastic casing (sone have , some have not) or you could take it off tge van and separate the two halves as sone have done , both provide good fixes to the issue of the sliding door lock not actuating.
There are lots of posts on the T6 forum of people whom have fix their issues with this method. : internet search: "Sliding door lock" will throw up plenty of hits
If you can't find the info you're after , let me know and I'll search and post the findings here.
If you need the part number for the Actuator, let me know and I'll dig out the paperwork.
Low starter Battery voltage can cause temporary issues. Check your starter Voltage
Hope you get it sorted
