Will this ladder stow up top "uncollapsed" on the mattress and still allow the roof to close? We don't store anything else up there.

No, but if you attach the bag to the back of the bench seat (it has straps to clip round the headrest metal) it’s easy to access from the inside of the van. It’s in a good quality bag with a nice long zip. Expensive accessory but made such a difference for us.
 
Interested in this but a number of reviews say that the top of the ladder doesn’t grip or hook on to anything. Is that true?

yes thats true we didn't think people would want to fix or screw anything onto their vans although i dont find it a problem at all
 
It doesn’t grip but once you step on it, your weight keeps it in place. I’m very cautious on any steps, ladders etc due to knee replacements but had this over a year now and have no issues with it.

True. But it doesn’t really need to. When you get used to it body weight does the job when going up/down. We don’t keep it up in the day.
