Can anyone recommend a site on the Antrim coast or nearby? We had lined up two campsites in Northern Ireland, have now booked the ferry and other site (Castle Ward) but have just realised upon booking the second (Ballyness) that they do not allow awnings with groundsheets. With two children and a dog this is just not feasible. Thanks in advance, any suggestions welcome!

Hi, can't help with campsites but maybe contact the site re groundsheets. You can get breathable groundsheets to avoid "killing" the grass.

We did the Antrim coast a while back, just arrived on site ad hoc each night (and actually stayed at Ballyness). One site that stays in the memory is Cushendun Caravan Park, you will find it on Google maps. Nice little village and harbour with a pub etc.

Sorry I can't specifically remember any of the other sites we stayed at, they mustn't have been memorable! Apart from the municipal one on the Carrickfergus road from Belfast where we were locked in behind a wire fence and besieged outside by local yobs lighting fires and chucking eggs at us :Nailbiting

Another really nice one further south (though not in Antrim) was Kilbroney Caravan Park near Warrenpoint; we have actually made several visits there over the years and would go again.

Thanks that's brilliant ... we had already seen Kilbroney so its good to have a recommendation :). A couple of others in parks seem to suffer security wise at night, when they are visited by 'local youths' (to quote Trip Advisor!). Will definitely take a look at Cushenden:thumb
