Thank youDepends where you are going on scotland really as well. Generally M1 A66 m6 m74 can be quiet. You can nip off the A720 and get to Edinburgh that way and onwards to Perth via a90. A9 north from there. M74 also gets you Glasgow and you can m80 round to Stirling and onwards up a82 to Glencoe etc
Thank youVarious routes depending on your requirements, i'll miss out the M25 section.
Fastest routes (depending on departure time)
M1 to Leeds then A1 to Scotch corner then A66 across to M6 - M74
M11 - A14 - A1 as above.
M1 - M6 - M42 Toll - M6 - M74. M6 can be pretty slow depending on time of day.
Scenic route through the Borders
M1 - A1 - Morpeth leave A1 onto A696 Coldstream - A68 Edinburgh - A720 bypass M90 over new Forth Bridge to Perth ---Prolific Speed Cameras on A696/A68
M1 - A1 to Edinburgh. A1 north of Newcastle has single carriageway sections with some passing lanes. ends at A720 as above.
A1 gets congested north of Scotch Corner, can be slow around Newcastle especially where it passes the Metro shopping centre.
I go to Aberdeen and use the A1, A66, M6 route for a quick run but often come down on the A68, A696 A1 route as it's more scenic and leisurely through the border area. Cameras are a pain as usually where you can accidentally overspeed. The M6 M74 is quite boring/tedious.
Once tried coming down the M6 but took ages to get past Manchester area. you hit it at the wrong time if setting off in the morning from either your end or north Scotland.
