Anyone heading to Glastonbury in the van this week. We were lucky enough to get tickets for this year but we are offsite on the Bath and West Showground so not sure what to expect.

The Glastonbury 2022 line-up features over 3,000 performances across dozens of stages !! Isn’t that a bit OTT?

Have you worked out which acts you want to see @MrShaz :)

Yes it is slightly nuts !! No I am a bit more of a go with the flow of what's on where I find myself...having been a few times before if you get to hung up on being in a place at a certain time to see a certain act it becomes exhausting as the site is so large.

Leave plenty of time for your drive. Roads likely to be superbusy due to the train strikes.

Yes… but waiting delivery of our campervan so I’ll be in a tent. I’ve managed to talk Mrs F into going next year (if we have a van by then… and we get tickets… and we get campervan tickets!).

I had a brief Weds overnight there in 2016, when they had to tow each van in to the main site with a tractor due to the mud. Plenty of space, decent toilets and showers too, I think. You have to get a shuttle bus to and from the festival site but that might be quicker than the long walk to some of the distant Campervan East fields.

Yep, I’ll be there from tomorrow.
First time in my own camper as usually travelled each year in my friends motor home, but set up our tent next to it as you can have space for a additional tent or awning.
Did the whole camping on site for 4 or 5 times but after discovering the joys of doing a festival in a camper in 2014 I don’t think I can go back to that way.
Just the benifit of having cold beer in the fridge and be able to charge phones was engough to put up with the 30 min queue each morning to get back through the security wall

Hi all really interested to know how it works with a camper? I’ve never been but would like to go with the family if we could get tickets. I like the idea of having the van there and a cold fridge!

We have done quite a few festivals in various vans and it's whole different experience vs. camping would defo recommend.

I tried to get tickets for years without a sniff of success and have now given up. I hope you have a great time, I will be going to the F1 at Silverstone for 4 days next week instead. Would have loved to have done both. Please share your experience with us when you get back.

How does it work ? Do you apply for ‘normal’ tickets, then apply for campervan tickets ? If you camp at Bath showground - how long does it take to drive in ? Not been to Glasto since 1985 went by coach last time !

I’d rather watch festivals on TV with the surround on. After being covered in wee wee at my last festival in 2010, vowed never again…

We camped at the bath and west this year (previously had campervan tickets on site). Not really for me. A good 45 minute walk to the gate and then another 30 minutes to 1.5 hour wait and bus journey.

You also had to join the queues with everyone else arriving. In the campervan areas on site its just limited to those people.

Interesting to hear. They had advertised shuttle buses every 15 mins, I thought.

It was the first time in the regular CV East for me; I've always been in CV East Quiet before. I was put in field E12, as far as you could be from the gate, with no facilities in the field. Ten minute walk to nearest toilets in the next field! Annoyingly they appeared to be filling up the fields from the back, so the later you arrived the closer you were to the gate.

The queue was bad at times. There were more vans this year, and Gate C also had folks coming in from some of the car parks.

Back to the quiet fields next year I hope!

Yes at quiet times (e.g. 4am) no wait for the bus and they took about 20 minutes. On Sunday evening we waited 1.5 hours after leaving the pyramid stage at 11ish.

To be honest it felt like were were visiting the festival rather than staying there. At least you only have a long walk then bed in the other campervan fields. And no shuttle bus!

Facilities once at the campsite were actually pretty good though. Lots of loo’s and they even had showers (not many people using them though).

I’ve stayed in campervan west which is much smaller than east but a bit of a trek. They switched to pre erected tents this year unfortunately.

Assuming we get a ticket I’ll try the east quiet next year. Only B&W available when i booked in Oct 19.

Hope you had a good festival. I’ve come back with covid which I’m blaming on the shuttle buses. Not being in a field with 100k other people :)

I meant to post my experience earlier, we managed to snag a last minute East Camper Field ticket so ended up on site. We did end up in E15 which was probably the furthest field out so at a fast pace walk it took about 30 minutes to get to entrance Gate C and then join another queue to get through the gate. In terms of facilities in the campervan field, toilets were pretty scarce, there were about a dozen tardis toilets and 12 long drops and no showers for two-three of the the fields which was manageable; guessing they expect more motorhomes with onboard facilities rather than campervans.
Based on Rhic's comments even though it was a 30 minute walk it was worth to be on site vs. being offsite and getting on a bus. The campervan was treat and provided a nice base in terms of a comfy bed and the ability to have a cooked breakfast and place to relax, We did take a utility tent with a chemical toilet which used only for no 1s in the night which saved on the night 10 min trudge to the tardis.

Things to get before the next festival, a bigger water carrier with the ability to top up the tank and a shower bag

In terms of the festival we really enjoyed it and the van provided a significant level of comfort over camping the whole Glastonbury experience helped by the decent weather.

Great info. We looking to try our luck next year for both festival and site tickets. Main worry is if we get festival and not site. Looks like offsite options but they are crazy prices for local farmers fields.

It's worthwhile going for tickets as you can also let them go before final payment if you don't get an onsite pitch. We will be trying again for next year, tickets are hit and miss. I think since 2008 we've only been lucky 3 times.

Never missed Glastonbury and always had a perfect view of the stage. Never had to struggle through the mud and crowds with a long walk to the loo or back to bed and always had plenty of food and drink to hand. Hot showers have also never been a problem and have had a zero cost of travel too.

Television coverage is a wonderful thing :) :)
