Noticed these on the van when I first opened the awning, could never work out what they are for and forgot about them until they just appeared in a YouTube video.

Answers on a post(card) please

Seriously, is that it! :talktothehand

I was expecting something far more exciting!

Thanks guys

If you start getting a rattle at head height adjusting the spacing of them can resolve this. They are also available to buy (? from the club shop) if your awning has a rattle that proves difficult to stop.

This is one of those posts that should come with a public health warning on how to use the search function, so often is it asked.

I sympathise with the OP, If you don't know what it is, what do you search for?

I would also give them a 10 out of 10 for both providing a decent photo showing exactly what they are talking about, and filling in their vehicle details properly so we know what they have.

They dampen awning rattle to a level where you get annoyed by the wind-deflectors chattering.
Our awning has foam sticky pads which seem to work.

Here to help.

To be fair to the OP, I could only find three in the top 4 for "what awning" ;)

They always do, you can tell by the thread titles...

Now we know what they are for…..what is the perfect position for them? Has anyone measured from each end of the awning rail? Or should they line up with the knuckle joint of the folding awning arms?

To be fair, I have posted questions in older threads having searched for them, and didn’t get much response or feedback. So I can understand why some people make new threads which get a better response.

This is one of those posts that makes you realise this site is full of old ‘VIP members’ () who like to offer nothing but snark and misery to those who may not know as much as they do. This is why I rarely interact with this site any longer.

You must be so proud of yourself for posting this dspuk. Well done

Good question - I'll be interested in the answer as mine tend to move around a bit.

If there’s someone with an older Cali they could tell you the location (older vans had stick on neoprene pads that don’t move).

From memory (as I don’t have an Ocean anymore) they need to sit about 2” either side of centre. If you look as you wind your awning in, as it gets close to closing you want to make sure these plastic bits are in a position to receive the “knees” of the legs.

With a grand total of 3 posts in 4 yrs, obviously a taker rather than a giver, I don't think you are in any position to comment.

I find these answers much more informative. Rather than what are they, where should they go. 2 mins of anyones time finds out what they are but where they should go is a great pose.

I too took the assumption that they should meet the knuckles and check every so often on wind in.

Good to know others think the same.

As for the “are you a snark” comments - not at all, but given the regularity this is asked (here and the corresponding FB group) and the ease of a small amount of investment in time to find the answer, my flippancy was maybe a little terse. But pleased to give some an opportunity to “snark” back. Bit of weekend fun. No great shakes my side.

let me guess: your ‘lifetime VIP membership‘ is the highlight of your sad, sad life. Goodbye.
I can see why you’ve only got to 4 posts in 4 yrs. Very Sad.

As an Old VIP member, I find your comments insulting.

Perhaps if the likes of you that don’t contribute, either financially or by answering new members questions, we’re a bit more helpful, it wouldn’t be left to the same old people to answer.

As I intemated earlier, a sensible question, with accurate photos & the member having taken the trouble to fill in their vehicle details, makes it easy to answer & will invariably get a sensible answer as was the case here.

In the scale of silliest question to ask the OPs was sensible, we have a long, long way to go to beat “what does the ventilate button do”.
