Bought a VW T5 California Comfortline 2014 few month ago, and just found a batteri under the passanger seat in the front (and by that I mean the left seat that is the driving seat in the California SE). Sadly my user manuall is in german, so I have a hard time finding information about what the batteri is for.

The previous owner change the the two other batteriers just before I bought it. But he told me he didn´t know about the batterie under the front seat.

My questions:
What is the batteri for? (Which parts get power from it?)

Should I change it? (has not bean changed since 2014)

Normally the Leisure batteries are changed as a pair. If as you have been informed the one under the seat is now 7 years old it is probably virtually dead.

Check or have both leisure batteries fully tested. You will probably need one or both replacing to give a reliable power source.

As mentioned above, your vehicle has 3 batteries. Engine battery and 2 leisure batteries. The 2 leisure batteries are connected in parallel and it is advised to replace them both at the same time (to maintain condition and longevity). If you have only recently bought the Cali then I would replace the one under the seat as soon as possible.
I’m just slightly astonished that the seller didn’t know his own vehicle had 3 batteries. So a good thing for you that you are on this forum!

Thanks every one for all the info! This forum is really amazing!

The leisure batterie in the back is about one year old. Should a get two new batteries? Our is it enough to change the one under the front seat? I guess it´s hard to give a straight answear, but I would appreciate your qualified guesses.

You must ensure any replacement battery is the same type and output as the recently replaced Leisure Battery

Hei Tor
Once you decide what you want to do regarding your batteries it would be great to hear back on your decisions and further experience.

@Tor Johnsson , if in your place I would

- first gather information about the batteries. Manufacturer name, mode number and year of manufacture. If you are able to post that on here, we can advise better.

- VW recommend Varta la80

- based on the info posted above, it seems you have two batteries that are 1 year old and another one which is 6

- most probably you should be good if you replace the 6 year old with the correct battery (if the other two batteries are the correct replacement ones)

- I would also get a battery health test done from a battery dealer to test on the general health of the batteries. Not required, but when a vehicle is new to you, good to know it's general health.

- replace with the same brand/model batteries as you already have.

Let us know how you get on with it.
