Beam assist on 2024 T6.1 Cali Ocean

is this standard fit and if so how do you activate as cannot seem to get it to work?

It was a £150 option on our Ocean when ordered in November last year.

With the headlight switch in the auto position, once the headlights turn on, you need to push the high/low beam lever forward a couple of times. At that point the blue high beam warning icon on the dashboard changes to a white headlamp icon with an A in the centre of it.

As above.
It only works above a certain speed and never in built up areas with street lighting.

As mentioned above, it’s a paid-for option. Did you spec it? If you have the option, there’s nothing special to do - the auto headlights will activate whenever you push the high beam stalk.

I have had my van 12 months and only just (literally yesterday) discovered that this was fitted.

It’s a grand feature. But other cars do it an awful lot better I have to say.

I drove a hire Peugeot 508 a few years ago. On that car, the automatic high beams are brilliant. They switch on automatically (unlike on the California where you always have to manually switch on the automatic high beams, which is ever so slightly silly). They reacted instantly to having a car in front (unlike the California where you blind oncoming cars for a good second before it decides to dip the beams). And they never had false positive (unlike the California where it often randomly dips the beams for no good reason).

Still, it does more long journey a little bit less tiring by taking care of the lights for you.

What that doesn't mention is that if you have the switch in the forward position with the headlamps on auto but dipped, you can override the auto function by pushing the switch forward again to turn on full beam. This is useful when doing 36.9mph on country lanes and the blooming things won't turn on as your not going fast enough.

I agree.

The automatic high beam system on my wife's 11 year old Vauxhall Mokka is far more effective.

As with the Peugeot you drove, the reaction time is far quicker and the setting is remembered every time the headlights are automatically switched on and off.

But yes, it is still a handy feature on our Cali and I do use it regularly. It just needs a bit more manual intervention than the Mokka (and other cars we have had in the past with auto high beam).

It seems this has not been coded on my California. Will have to see how easy it is to be coded.
