Hello folks. Help required. We currently have a Dyson Animal cylinder hoover. Its almost 5 years old and losing its touch. Coupled with a new baby on the way and a toddler we tend to hoover up ad hoc with a dust buster type cordless thing and the Dyson is a weekly affair. Sometimes more as we have cats.

So looking for a lighter and cordless solution.

Narrowed it down to the Dyson Absolute or Animal V8 which is an eye watering £500. Or a G Tech Air Ram K9 and Air Ram Multi around £350, but two machines.

Please help, advice needed.

Many thanks, Gordon.

Get your dyson serviced. If it's under 5 yrs old it's under guaranteed. It's money well spent they replace anything. Much cheaper than a new one

I have to admit that since the arrival of our Cali, getting a fancy cordless vacuum is attractive. I actually hoover it more than I hoover our house :)

I did consider that however its still leaving us with the current predicament that a lighter cordless is desirable.

We have a Dyson DC31, it's over 5 years of age but we have recently bought a new battery from Amazon cost £32 (much less than from Dyson) and I dismantled it and cleaned it all out. It is now like a new machine. And perfect for fitting in the draw under the back seat.

I have a Bosch Athlet cordless, works a treat. The brush head comes off so you can attach a hose for those hard to reach bits. Battery life is good and reasonably quick to recharge.

We have a Dyson V6 as a light handheld hoover and it's great. We just attach the smaller brush accessory for when we are away and it fits in the drawer under the seat in the van a treat.

To be clear its for the house :)
The absolute seems to be the winner. With a carpet roller and hard wood one, handy wall bracket for storage.

Can't advise on a Hoover but we got a £2 dustpan and brush set for the van, threw the pan away and the brush works brilliantly on the carpets while we are away. The kids enjoy doing it which is even better!

Opted for the Dyson, what a machine. We went over a hoovered area our outgoing hoover hoovered, what a surprise.
Done the house on one charge including stairs and couches.
Well impressed with my new gadget, maybe the Mrs is very clever, but I will be doing all the hoovering now now all I need is an iron or ironer lol

What model did you go for?

I have a Mark 1 Mrs DavidofHook who is very good with a dustpan and brush. Far cheaper than a Dyson and very efficiently!

But what are the overall running costs and what guarantees did you get. Surley you took the service plan.

Guarantees are hard to get at an early purchase stage, because this model can put unbearable, loads on the purchaser leading to possible replacement at a later date
Running costs can, over the years, mount up it is true, but, if you do your homework at the time of purchase, then this can be offset by additional benefits including going out to work for you, cooking and cleaning and conjugal assistance after the 9 o'clock watershed. These models can be quite hard to get hold of though.
At the time of my purchase no service plans were available,

You do know you can plug the vac into the van....though you need to be hooked up as it is more than 150 watts

Fitted 12v socket switched from ignition do charges my little handheld vac whilst driving!

It's from the 12v switched ignition, engine side, so only charges when vehicle is driving

How did you manage to get that in to the left cupboard under the coocker?

I retro fitted a genuine reverse camera and noticed there is a 12v switched on that from the ignition that runs in a loom in the back cupboard where the gas bottle is so split it from there

+1 for the Dyson v8 - took it to the Monster In Law for approval (obsessive daily vacuumer) and it even picked up dirt there! We probably use it every day sounds odd but much more simple than going to the cupboard, plugging in etc. its like cordless vs corded phones - sounds silly/lazy but the experience is much better
