Evening,

I'm trying to find some sort of edge protectors that clip onto the based on the camping chairs...

Thus far I'm not having any luck; has anybody come across such a product?

Thanks in advance.

I thought about that when I first got the van.
I then realised it was totally pointless.

You could get a reel of self amalgamating tape and make your own. Wrap to desired thickness and length. When wrapping the tape stretch it quite a bit (as in a lot) as you go. The tape blends together and will becomes a solid lump of rubber, screwfix do it I think. Or find something like water pipe with right internal diameter, cut to length and slit, if it is slit spirally that will help.

Good tip - thanks.

In the end I found some on eBay...

Bit of an update...

These widgets arrived and while they sort of work, they are not great to be honest; to get them to fit you have to cut off the raised pin part that is on the inside edge (or else drill a hole in the leg of the Cali chair)...

Once on the chair, they a little too flimsy and narrow and consequently move around a bit.

I have found an alternative, once they arrive I'll let you know if they are any better (or worse).

Thankyou for your continued research :)

So the new widgets arrived, good news and bad.

First, the good news, they are the perfect fit, just as if VW had included them from the factory...

They are wider and much more solid with a tighter fit than the first attempt, and they don't have the little sticking out thing you have to cut off - result :thumb

Now for the bad news, when attached to the chairs, the chairs no longer fit into the tailgate! No amount of chair wiggling will get them to go in :talktothehand

Since I'm somewhat OCD with my Cali, I've told myself I'll keep eight of them in a little box in the Cali and I'll just fit them every time we use the chairs but even I may tire of doing that.

Anyhoo, if you want to get yourself a set, here they are...

Can't you slide them to the middle of the bottom rail for storage then slide back when in use? Or twist them 180 degrees when stowing?

Tried them is all sorts of positions, pushed to the middle, rotated 180 degrees, nothing cooking. The problem is the hard foam material inside the tailgate that the chairs slot into just won't give at all, it must grip the chairs very tightly to stop them rattling while in transit and it's this tight fit that prevents them going in with these widgets attached.

I'll see if there is any other part of the chair to attach them to when stowed and report back.

This is pretty much the only place they will go and still fit in the tailgate...

They are easy enough to move about so can just position them correctly when using the chairs.

I know I know, scratching the bottom of the chairs shouldn't bother me, but it does, what can you do :talktothehand
