We have a 2012 T5 from new. It has the new 'lighter' roof canvas as we had the dreaded corroded roof fixed in 2014.
We are in our fifth week in France and were getting ready to move on two mornings ago. I pulled down the roof bed (we don't use it) and saw light at the far end on one side. The roof canvas had pulled out of the metal groove that fixes it to the raised roof. The whole corner had dropped about out 8" in length I suppose, but I was able to push it back in, amazingly. We are now on a new site and the bed is up to give us headroom, and, as far as I am aware it is OK.
The other corner looked as if it may have been trying to spring out, so I have pushed that in as well, just in case it tries! Seems ok
Not sure how to follow this up, the warranty for the repaired roof is either 1 year or 6, I am not sure. Almost certain to be one year!!
I will probably give SMG a ring when we get back and I will keep you informed.

Pretty much has to be that whoever fitted the replacement canvas fooked it up.

I'd find a recommended VW Cali specialist locally, get a receipt and send it to the UK garage when you return. ;)

i have a feeling that this is just pushed in by hand , and we also had our bellows replaced a couple of years ago and i pushed it back in and been fine ever since

Found the reason for the canvas being pulled out. It was caused by the mattress sliding down bed and hitting the canvas at the bottom when the lid is raised. This always happens when top bed is lifted because the mattress has an Inka cover which is slippery. And, on this occasion the roof had been opened for a long period, over 2 weeks which, I guess, is why the canvas got pulled out.
To stop it happening again I've fixed it to the bed timbers with Velcro. I can't tell yet if it has worked because the weather has been too bad to open the roof!
