Changing the tail gate gas struts with a cycle carrier?

Hi - I have just picked up my cycle rack thanks to SMG (which arrived with 18 hrs of ordering!). In the documentation it states that i might need to upgrade the gas struts to 7HO 827 550B. I have had a look on the forum but could not find any threads prior?

From my limited knowledge i had thought that the California had already upgraded struts and the upgrade was only required for the multi van?

The struts should say on them what power they are (think in KN?). If you check the instructions it should say what power the upgraded struts are you can check this against the struts no your vehicle.

Let us know what the instructions say and what you have on the van as well that would be great.

Alex the struts say 1250N ?

I *think* that according to the instructions that that is ok. Am sure the instructions say something about Caravelles, California's and Multi-vans having the correct struts fitted already.

The instructions should confirm whant rating they should be

Thanks again Alex, yes the info says 1080N so I'm assuming 1250 is sufficient.
