Ethical dilemma for the owners. So if you were asked to return a car to have it made less efficient but less polluting would you?

Nope....

Because all of us live a lie over these matters. As humans we want want...and basically do what we want to please ourselves..then pretend we want to be carbon neutral or as near as we can...it's mostly all lip service.
