My Cali is 2012. Several years ago official VW Dealer A in the NW undertook the corrosion fix on the roof. A while later the roof stopped working and an alarm sounded intermittently. Dealer A then reluctantly took it back and worked on it. A year later the same thing happened, only this time they refused to repair it under warranty. They accused me of lying when I said I had not used the van for camping. They also charged me ove £2K and returned the van in a filthy state. Last month the repaired plastic cap started to detach. I took it to Dealer B, afraid to return to Dealer A. Dealer B had the van for a week then announced they would not touch the repair. They said the quality of the previous repair was an appaling mess. So I have a very expensive vehicle that has been a perpetual problem and not fit for purpose. I have contacted VW for help. No way would I ever buy another California. I'll report what VW come back with. Very depressing.

I have a similar problem with the repair failure coupled with corrosion on the A pillars. After 6 months of argument with the executive office of VW and contacting VW Germany they agreed to an independent paint inspection, which concluded that I hadn’t driven into a height barrier and that the initial repair was inadequate also that whatever adhesive was used to secure the plastic trim on the A pillars was attacking the steel.
