Dartmoor stop-over Suggestions

during March I am leaving the sensible half and child at home for the weekend and going for a walk round Dartmoor with a night under canvas. In order to get down to Widecombe-on-the-moor early in the Saturday with no driving stresses from Dorset, I want to stop over on the Friday night within a half an hour drive of the walk start. Has anyone got a recommendation - ideally with a pub for dinner next door!!! - but quite happy to cook, just being on my own, in March, recommendations would be gratefully received!!

You could look at the Dartmoor Halfway inn. The pub has just been refurbished and it has a small campsite. Only about 15 to 20 mins to Widecombe.

At Widecombe, park & sleep in the car park overnight, toilets there as well & a Pub with nosh. You won’t get moved on.
