Difference between temperature shown on Control Unit & Dash?

Hi, the temperature displayed on the main control unit is always different to the temperature displayed on the dash, is this right - if so why!?

As far as I know these are 2 different sensors. It seems to me that the sensor for the central panel is affected by the heat coming from the engine and from the stationary heating.
