Drive away awning

Can anyone give recommendations for a good size, easy to fit drive away awning?

Depends on what you will use it for, both have sleeping compartments if needed though. We sell both. There are new models out in January, but we have an ex demo version of each 2014 model for sale, if you are interested.

My twopenneth - based on limited experience so far...

We didn't initially buy a drive away awning based primarily on advice I'd read here - we went for a cinch hub instead (I know there are delivery problems with these at the moment), which is great for additional space to decant everything into when you're staying put for more than a couple of days. One of the sites we booked this summer specified that any awning had to be attached, so we bought a Vango Kela, which is relatively small/simple but gives similarly useful extra space. We've used it 3 times now - twice attached close to the van, and most recently attached to the extended van awning.

When close to the van the drive-away gives the feeling of properly extending the van space. Both times we cursed the faff factor when putting it up, but then appreciated having it.The main issue for me is that it's a shame to restrict the views from the van. We preferred it when attached to the extended van awning, but then asked ourselves what is the point of it being attached.

Next trip we're going back to the cinch hub, but I'm also tempted by a smaller utility tent. I'm not planning to get rid of the drive-away yet, but I can feel myself moving into the downsizing phase of camper van ownership!

It’s worth using the search function on this one. There have been several threads recently on drive away awnings and some great content re options, needs etc. This is one accessory that can cost plenty and have a big impact on how you use your van.

Drive away awning not flush

Hi we have a Vango drive away awning connected by the figure of 8 kit. What do others do about the gap at the top between the van and awning (see picture attached). thanks
