DVLA auctions and private registrations

Hi all, I’m thinking of treating the bus to a reg on its second birthday in October. I’ve seen a few that I like however they come and go through the dvla auctions, which makes me a tad apprehensive.
Has anybody any experience with buying through this auction accompanied with any handy tips?
