If the milage is less than 60,000 then will make no difference as damage might already be done. BUT note - not all 180’s suffer problems.
Mine didn’t, 2014 180 Biturbo covered 136,000 miles over 10 yrs and oil usage between annual services 0 mls.

New engine in ours at 75k. Lots of crap in the oil with a Millers oil test and compression very low on all cylinders. Van running fine and not using much oil but a future time bomb so replacement engine/turbo from Retro Resus. If I was buying any of the BiTurbos I would want at least a compression test doing. Serviced every year at least once by main dealer so regular oil changes.

Blanking off the EGR is illegal as is any part of the emissions system alteration.

Might get away with it but more focus is being put on that area by the DoT relating to MOT checking.
Also a modification in the eyes of Insurers.

But it’s kinder on the wallet versus a new engine!

It’s easy to unblank, should MOT centres ever check it.

No, once metal from a damaged EGR has dropped into the engine, the damage has already started.

(I see it from time to time at work with ship engines, where the contamination is introduced from suppling offspec fuel, it’s an expensive fix!)

The chances or anyone carrying out a definitive check during an MOT !

Needs blanking out at both ends of feed pipe and EGR programming off/out.

Read an interesting report on long term effect being excess soot going into filter and causing that to fail with replacement costs incurred. That was from a business doing filter cleaning and replacement services.

There is also the pollution factor by defeating the whole object of emission controls on public health.
