Hi we’ve just had to have the EGR valve changed I. Our 2017 204ps Cali! Only done 27000mls! At a cost of 2k. Is this a common fault?

Also, if you find the van is doing a regen cycle, never cut it short.

Very interesting point, thanks.
By ‘never cut it short’ do you mean, for example, if I arrive home and the engine is in a regenerative state, allow that to continue before switching off the ignition? How long is that likely to take?

Yes exactly - best to drive around a bit to keep the engine hot, otherwise it might not be totally effective. The regen cycle typically last 20 minutes depending on the condition of your DPF (soot loading). The engine needs to be hot for the regen to start. If you do lots of short journeys this doesn’t happen, and DPF clogs which stops the EGR valve working..

Get it deleted, then no need to worry.

Would the van still pass its MOT? I thought the EGR was essential for EU6 emissions.

Unlikely that the van would fail, especially if taken for a good run just before the MOT - DIY ‘regen cycle’ / Italian tune up!

Plus I think that that in the UK it’s just a smoke test for diesel’s, but I might be wrong?

The EGR assists in meeting EU6 emissions.

Worth doing outside of warranty to possibly save £2k replacement cost.

How do I know if it is doing a regen cycle?
1) Start stop is disabled during Regen ,
2) Idle revs increase to 1000 rpm
3) Alternator output increases to 15.1V (approximately) this can be a useful visual indicator when using a plug in Volt read out, such as USB charger with integrated read out ( plugged into front 12v socket in dash)
