Hello all, apologies if this is in the wrong place,

We’re picking up our Cali on Saturday, and hoping to go away straight away in it - just for one night away in the new toy - the vans in the new forest so what better place to start!

does anyone know any sites open this time of year in the area for one night?

We’re packing the bare bones as heading down on train.

Worst case, sign yourself up to Britstops. Brilliant subscription that gives you a breakdown of thousands of pubs etc that allow overnight parking with the only request that you pop in for a drink etc.

Setthorns Campsite is open and well positioned in the forest, but doesn't have loos or washing facilities so you need to prove you're suitably equipped. Bring boots, everything is very boggy at the moment.

Pitchup is worth checking. I was going to recommend Hollands Wood but it doesn’t appear to be open yet.

We have stayed at Black Knowles CAMC site a few times now and loved it. Not cheap, but highly consistent CAMC quality and its right in the middle of the forest.

Long meadow campsite - parkland site, mainly grass pitches, some all weather electric, Pizza van onsite, secure Gated access, Warden onsite (very chilled) clean facilities

Wake up to Deer onsite , nice flat walk to Brokenhurst (shops, restaurants / pubs / chippy ) via the forest trail connected to the site. Highly likely to see cattle, ponies etc along the trail and heathland. Trail is mainly all weather but Can be Damp ! (Bring boots)

Longer walk to Lyndhurst via the forest trail

Don’t think it’s open until March?

I think that a lot are closed at the moment but I have stayed here before. Open all year and easy to find off the A31. I’m holding a meet in December at the site further up the access road but it’s currently closed.
Shamba is open though.

Both Long Meadow and Black Knowl are great sites stayed at both in the past. Although Long Meadow won't be open until the spring.

Aw I love Long Meadow! That’s where I went last year the day I picked up my van!
Can’t wait for it to open again! Maybe we should do a meet there for a night!?

Not in the forest, but Hurst View, between Lymington and Keyhaven is good, very close to the sea wall footpath, good pubs nearby.

...and no check out time on your last day ( might be only if you are on a grass pitch with no electric) - so no mad panic to pack up which makes a refreshing change!

We’ve booked Roundhill site for the summer, looks great and some decent reviews. There’s the campinginthenewforest.com site which is very helpful. Also good YouTube reviews for all of these too.

If you get stuck, we've stayed at "The Turfcutters Arms" in East Boldre. Only a carpark with room for four vavs, but good friendly local, open fire and good food.
