Hi everyone,
I came across this forum while looking for information on awning installations for the VW T6.1 California Beach Tour. My van has two sliding doors, and I’m considering fitting an awning on the left-hand side. Most of the information I’ve found so far comes from German forums, where awnings are always fitted on the right-hand side, so details on left-side setups are quite limited. If anyone has experience or advice, I’d really appreciate it.

to the forum ! You’ll find lots of members here willing to share experiences.

You might expect that vans delivered to a country that drives on the left to have sliding doors on the left. But no. As we apparently don’t buy enough volume, we are treated to right side opening by VW !

So the experience of left hand awnings might be limited

Thanks for the clarification. After searching through this forum a bit more, I came to the same conclusion.

From what I can see, a left-side awning would require modified or mirrored OEM brackets, so it’s very much a custom solution with a fair amount of improvisation, including custom-made mounts.

I have no Doubt Thule will sell brackets for both sides of the van.

Obviously UK conversion market will primarily be awning on left hand side (near side U.K.)

In UK probably available from Roseawnings or Club Shop.
