Welcome Maisie, what's your budget? Are you specifically looking for a Cali and how many people do you want to sleep?

Our two busses are both Vdubs, our Cali is 16months old and has done 19000miles pre lockdown ! 199 DSG box 4motion and a comfortable mile muncher, last year we did Spain and back to run it in! 500mls plus in a day easily achieved. Our Caravelle is a 2.5 TDI 102 BHP 2002, we've had it since 2002 ( it was a demonstrator) and is closing in on 250,000mls with no real issues, it also is a comfortable motorway machine. As to maintainability, ours are serviced to the VW schedule, and other things like discs and pads , oil pumps, water pumps etc replaced on the advice of the garage. we have a good workshop locally and they understand where we are coming from in terms of keeping the vehicle reliable. Running costs are really manageable, in our view; but that is a personal take. over the decades that we have run vw T4's; they were all reasonable ; the jury is still to pronounce service cost long term on the T6 as it is still too new and a much more complicated machine.
The only recovery we had to endure with the Caravelle was a couple of years ago when the gear linkage nylon cup and ball connection failed in south London and made gear selection impossible! something that T4 owners should be aware of, since the parts and replacement cost relatively little.
