Hi,
Took ownership of a new Beach Camper in May with High Beam Assist as an option, since the clocks change it has really been the first time to check this feature.
Reading the manual there is no description or mention of the 37 mph activation to main beam when lights on Auto/dipped beam, I mention this as there are posts I've read that clearly state that this does work. A few moans about it being at 37mph as too high though.

My issue is it doesn't activate at 37mph, it does work by moving the stalk to show the white 'A' symbol together with changing to main beam.
I do have an OBD11 device so I checked the settings in the module:
37mph parameter is loaded and can be altered if desired.
Light Assist is ticked (infotainment)
Main Beam Assist Memory isn't.
Cleaned camera, screen etc.
Halogen Lights

I did contact VW Customer Service regarding the correct operation in case I'm missing something, Christmas 2024 will arrive before I get an answer.
So if anyone could please enlighten I would be grateful.

1. If on Auto/dipped beam should main beam activate at 37mph without doing anything else?
2. To me if I use the stalk, main beam will alternate due to camera sensing light etc for safety reasons.

Thank You

There is another condition that I've noticed - not sure it is documented though, within city limits, with street lights, it will not activate.

So to answer your questions:
- the main beam on my van activates above 30 mph, though I will check it again, when I take it out tomorrow evening. The only requirement is that the (A) symbol is activated.
- yes, if you use the stalk with the (A) symbol activated, it will switch to low beam when the camera detects oncoming headlights or tail lights.

Though, if you are a conscientious driver, aware of risks of glare on others with a uber powerful LED light setup, remember that the VW implementation is not perfect. It dips too late. I only use it very rarely, that too late at night, when the traffic volume is very low, and that too mostly on highways and A-roads (and I get flashed by large trucks in the opposite lane sometimes).

It also gets confused by red lights on windturbines and switches to low beam, without nay a vehicle anywhere in sight.

As per Highway Code - You shouldn’t use full beam in 30mph / built up areas to avoid dazzling other road users & pedestrians , so probably why it’s set like this at the factory.

If I read your post right you are expecting the A to activate from a non enabled state. You need to have the white A showing for it to be enabled and then the activation as per speeds and oncoming traffic is managed.

If you don’t have the white A it doesn't come on separately at 37mph. That way you choose if auto headlights is on or off.

As a grumpy old git I came here to say... this is why cars (/vans) are getting far too cute in many areas. What was wrong with the driver choosing when to put the lights on main beam, and when to dip them?

(And don't get me started on bloody 'lane assist').
