A couple of years ago whilst in Italy we had a plague of ants one morning. Found they were crawling up the wire and into the van through the hook up socket. So decided to investigate today and found that the white plastic shield at the back of the socket had either come off or never been on. Put the shield back on, insulation tape over all the joints and silicon sealer round the cable entry. Hopefully this should prevent further infestations. Actually the missing shield could be dangerous as the mains terminals are exposed at the rear of the water tank space. Any delving around in here with the mains on could have been nasty.
So if you look inside the socket from the outside you should see white plastic bits at the back, if not then the shield is not in place.
White bits visible at the back
Shield back on and sealed up.
When you take out/replace the socket the wires need to be at the bottom right hand corner where the cutaway is, push the socket in and then twist clockwise to line the the screw ( t20) holes up. Obviously the reverse to take out. Check the terminal screws are tight while it's out.
