How common are roof leaks on GC680s?

First time poster here, looking to purchase a used GC 680. The first two that I went to look at both suffered from leaking roofs, seem like water ingress from the seam that runs along the top edges of the roof. I´m aware of the TPI 2073114 and related discussions, but just wondering if this really is a very common problem? Granted I have a very small pool of test samples but so far the results are not very encouraging and I'm wondering if I should look at any more GC 680´s at all or look for something else?

How common is this problem?

Get a California Ocean they’ve finally sorted the problem after a couple of years and 4 attempts(hopefully)

Doesn't yet seem to be that common or the norm as far as I can tell from the posts here and on the FB groups but certainly not rare. Its been suggested white roof variants seem to suffer more regularly than coloured as the Sikaflex seal is a different colour, but that seems anecdotal at this point. What IS very common is leaks due to a failure of the rear brakelight/camera assembly seal which can see water ending up in all sorts of places. This latter issue is an active VW recall & seal update. The dealer should be able to advise if this update has been done (94R4)

Ok, thanks. Both of the cars I looked at that where leaking where indeed white.

I´m also aware of the rear brake light leak, need to check if that has been rectified in the one I´m looking at.

Bit the bullet and bought a GC 680. Demo car,, reflex silver, has sat in the showroom for almost two years. Warranty was expiring in June, but managed to add three years of factory warranty for peace of mind. Wish me luck...

Well done Johan
Yes there do seem some issues, but with the help of the knowledgeable people on this forum and your massively extended warranty, I am sure you will enjoy touring etc in your GC.
I don’t include myself as GC knowledgeable- as still early days of ownership for us.
