Hello all,
I'm looking at having 8 days around La Rochelle preferring to stay on Il de Rey for majority of nights, any site recommendations to consider would be appreciated.
Will be just my self and Mrs B planning some walking swimming and cycling so not needing entertainment for kids etc!
Having stayed on some amazing sites in the uk I'm looking for a site with similarly good clean facilities as I have read on the here that not all are!
Thanks Chris

Never camped there so can’t recommend anything. But my sister lives in La Rochelle and she recommended us to stay on the Île d’Oleron - just south of Île de Ré instead.

Île de Ré is beautiful. But also very small, a major touristic attraction and very crowded. The toll bridge to get in and out of the island is really expensive too so day trips to see anything further afield isn’t quite an option.

Île d’oleron is larger, wilder, less touristic, a lot less crowded. Not as picture-card perfect maybe. But if you’re after quiet and wilderness for walking and cycling, it may be a better spot.

There are loads that look great. Had a good time on this site a couple of years ago near Ars en Re: https://www.camping-ile-de-re-cormoran.com/en/camping-le-cormoran-ile-de-re/

And have booked this one for later in the year, which is on the northern tip of the island:

By bike you’re never far from a village.

Camped at Camping Antioche Bois Plage on Ile de Ré a couple of years back. At the time they had one premium pitch with private facilities. Expensive at around 45 Euro per night, but well worth it. Private bathroom with shower, basin etc., full sized fridge, sink, cupboards - everything! But with only one pitch, you’ll be luckily to get it.

Availability may make the choice for you. Sites can get booked up quickly.

Using an app like a park for night helps highlight the sites in a particular location , you can then go to that sites website to check availability

Sunelia offers pitches with your own spotless shower building with loo, fridge and outside sink. They get reserved very quickly though.

We had a really nice stay here last year, there is also a very good market nearby

We stayed at Les Baleines last year - lovely site, would happily go back there.
