importing VW California to the U.S.

Does anyone know anything about taking a 1994 VW Cali hi-top from the Netherlands to California? Will the U.S. let it in?

I would have thought it would be "unlikely". Land Rover Defenders are much sought after in the USA but to import one then it has to be at least 25 yrs old with original chassis, engine type and running gear otherwise it is crushed at the port of entry. You cannot even take one in for a vacation unless it fulfills all the criteria.
Make enquiries, but I think you will be disappointed.

T5 has airbags and modern emissions controls. We're they available in 1994?

I believe it's a T4 not a T5.
