Hi, I have bought a CTEC D250S dual that I intend to install in my 2005 Cali. The purpose is to improve the battery properties of the van through a better charging regime. I have understood and experienced that the model is struggeling to keep the Aux battery fully charged solely by alternator charge.

Anyone who has done this upgrade and want to share experience? Posision, installation material, experienced improvement?

Anybody connected this one?
Want to get it for using with a solar panel. Just want to make sure what is the best way to wire it.

I built a portable power pack with one of these, very impressed, very low latent current draw so won't drain the batteries when left for long periods.

I ran a feed from the main fuse box on my Touareg to the alternator in on d250 and connected the output to the aux battery, then wired two small jack plug sockets to the solar input. I also wired in a a marine battery monitor to keep track on the charge. You can read the thread here; http://www.mytreg.com/index.php?/topic/11505-aux-battery-and-split-charge-project/ if your interested,

I don't see how this unit is going to help keep your leisure batteries charged up. A solar panel will produce far less charge than the alternator so why not just connect the solar panel/s directly to the leisure batteries through a suitable controller. Our panel is wired like this and keeps the LB charged up fine.

As Briwy says, the D250 is primarily a split charge unit with solar on the side. So if you already have the aux battery charged in situ then you only need a far simpler and cheaper solar regulator.

I am adding an extra battery to Beach which won't be charging from alternator by default. So this charger is nice for charging it from alternator, solar, and hookup in combo. Also helps to top up the main car battery.
I've added an option for "extended interface" don't recall how exactly it is called, but supposed to have extra connections to electrics behind the seat.

In that case, this is one of the best split charge units I have used, you wont be disappointed.

I have tested, Antares, National Luna, homemade relay job and this draws the least amount of stand-by current of them all.
