Kitchen benchtop

Hi everyone,
A can feel out of the cupboard over the kitchen bench of our GC680 and put a good dent in the benchtop. It’s not huge but the melamine is split so water can get into the wood. We’ve taken it to some local folks to see if they can help with a repair (It’s $6k NZD to get a new bench here from Germany). One person says the bench top is ply and another says honeycomb. Wondering if anyone knows for sure?
