Hi
Sorry asking this question as doesn't found any specific answer of my query.

Lowering Springs Advice and Price (T5.1 SE 4motion 18" Alloy )

I have broken my driver side front coil last week and i asked to VW dealership and they advised me to replace both front (nothing wrong in one). the just said its better to change same time.

one front spring cost £125 (including vat) + fitting charges £150 = £275
two front spring cost £250 (including vat) + fitting charges £200 = £450

i also asked about lowering kit price which is £360 (front and back) i am assuming fitting cost will be cost not much difference.

Can you please advice me what option should i go for as price difference not to big and hows the handling difference i will get if i go for lowering kit?
is that going to effect the off rode driving?

thanks

Hi, I have lowered 2 out of the 3 vans I have owned and found the vans were more stable and less wallowy, the van I didn't lower was my 4 motion as didn't think it was a good idea having less ground clearance.
If you are interested I have a new set of springs that may fit your van, they are colour coded so you would need to check if suitable.

Hi, I forgot to add they are off a T6 T30. Somebody else on here may know if they would fit.

You have broke a spring. You could change that 1 spring and all will be good again. That's the cheapest option. In my experience the other side will fail soon so I would change both. Just to save the headache. Front springs are tricky to swap compared to back. I've done them all so know what I'm on about. If your thinking about lowering, now is the time to do it as your paying out anyway to swap the springs so the labour will be the same.

Springs change over time and with a 5+ yrs old vehicle changing both axle springs is considered best practice.

I would also carefully consider why you are thinking about fitting lowering springs. Some have found a harsher ride, some not. If you are concerned about a wallowing suspension then Heavy Duty anti-roll bars should be your first port of call.

Agree with WG....Dont be tight.

Lowering springs. I did that. Ride was rubbish. Sold mine (4x) for £65 and now ride on B14 Komfort coilovers

Don’t forget to include the cost of a full 4 wheel alignment into a lowering kit. Reducing ride height alters suspension geometry that needs to be corrected.

Agree and a bugger to do properly as no data exists. Need to go to a specialist, specialist!

Thanks for all its really nice to see valuable advice. Sorry replying late as out of town.
i have made my decision to change only broken one as of now.

Not disagreeing with principle of alignment check but---

I have air suspension and when having the alignment set at main setting I asked for checks at different heights and little difference was found, virtually none requiring a reset.
