Good morning you lovely lot

Mrs H likes ice in her cocktails as we tour the warmer parts of Europe and she has her heart set on the myCoolman 20 litre fridge/freezer combo. Before I splurge £470 on unit and battery, does anybody have any experience of them or any (sensible) advice please?

Ta muchly,

Simon

If you hang one of those ice cube bags against the back wall of your fridge it will freeze. Use a clipboard with bag between clipboard and fridge back.

Get a yeti cooler, keeps ice for days. No power required.
We also have a couple of 1L thermally insulated screw top stainless steel vacuum type flasks which sit next to the cold wall of the fridge and keep the ice originally dispensed from our home American style ice dispenser at the ready for its 6pm daily distribution.

Although this part is a slight digression, I took one to Scotland for a fortnight, as a well thought out dog’s pre Munro hydration strategy (you can lead a dog to water and all that…) but promptly forgot all about it. The ice was still Gin and Tonic ready when we came back. A bargain at £26 a pop according to the thirsty one of the family. A search on “Insulated Leakproof Soup/Food Flask” on a large online store just came up with ours as the first non sponsored option. I researched these as the best ones at the time, per the many reviews, made by Pioneer. I do leave them in the freezer, until deployment in the ‘Van that way they’re at their coldest. We have ice making bags in the van in reserve, but I can’t recall the last time we needed one. If we’re away for a fortnight we buy a bag of ice from a supermarket and approach the nearest Van in the car park with half a bag of ice after restocking ourselves. Everyone so far has gratefully accepted.

As a slight aside, we also have a 240v portable ice dispenser for EHU trips - used just the once during the first week possible during COVID. Apparently, we really needed it. In the boot of the ‘Van it seems, bigger still than in the cupboard. Apparently, we still need it, just in case. A ‘Van does seem to be just the start of the journey. Awnings… Chairs… Sorry I’ve digressed, again

Cheers!

Great idea and digression. Thank you Baldrick.
