National Trust - Thank you for your help. Survey Closed.

Done. Good luck to your son.
I don't agree with all the work the National Trust does, but I think they have made big efforts to change in the last few years. More friendly than they used to be when I first visited 40 or so years ago.

We find them good but simply too restrictive for dog owners in my area. If we didn't have dogs we would still be members and we will probably join again at some point.

Once you get to the coast we found it becomes very good value of money. We used it more in Devon on a 2 week holiday than the rest of the year at home put together, simply because of dogs being allowed at so many places.

I don't disagree, though our local favourite day walking spot is NT and we can let them run free, off lead.

Stoneybroke junior is in his final year at Cumbria University, studying Animal Conservation Science, and has gained the cooperation and agreement of National Trust to focus on some of their sites, including a survey.

No doubt many Cali-clubbers venture to NT sites around the country, so if you do perhaps you could find a few minutes to do the survey -

Thanks in advance.
All done, good luck

Done, interesting survey with some difficult choices
Yes, he's trying to look at the balance between wildlife conservation and access, where, inevitably, the money from the access pays for the conservation, however the access/use can undo the conservation.
Thanks for taking the time to do the survey.

@Stoneybroke i hope your son got enough responses. The over-commercialisation of the NT is a hot topic at the moment it seems. We stayed at the NT caravan site at Ilam Country Park last night - very nice albeit a bit pricey. But it seems that £52K surplus isn't enough for the Trust. They intend to close the site to enlarge the car-park to accommodate 600 cars. No doubt a subsequent application will then be made to enlarge the tea room and shop to service as well. It's a tricky subject. Is increasing the car park capacity about increased access or increased revenue?

Thanks DM
It does seem a balance, the money making areas subsidising other parts perhaps.
Survey responses heading passed 170, with one week to go before he closes it, so should be a good sample.

The survey is now closed.
A big thank you, on behalf of my son. He is now reviewing the data from the responses of 260 people who did his survey to help with his dissertation for his degree in Animal Conservation Science.
Looking at the great response to this thread, VW California Club forum members account for at over 10% of those surveyed. :thumb
Thanks again everyone.
:thanks
