I know there are some threads around this topic but I am looking for some advice on installing a new 32GB Map card in my California T6.0 2017. It is the old problem of the original 16GB card not taking the current full Europe maps. I tried squeezing them on as per a previous thread but it did not work for me with the current version Europe maps on the VW site, Local VW dealer (Switzerland) was talking mega cash for a new card so I ordered one from Germany. Card came but was not recognised, they sent a second with same problem. They issued a refund but stated:

"With this newest update 5C0035680 models struggle and you're not the first customer."

Does anybody know a solution, perhaps a source of cards that might work...but from the above it would seem the problem is with the Discover Media? Firmware update?

Short-term I installed one of the smaller map sets to the existing card...but it is annoying as I cannot find the right country grouping for me. I need Switzerland, France, UK, Germany and Spain. Best I can do is a grouping without Spain.

Any advice would be appreciated,

Our garage said just to install waze on your phone and use apple carplay, not to bother with updating.

This might help.

I got our 32gb Sd card on eBay : it has to have a valid VW Card Identification (CID) number in its register. Search “MIB2 card” on eBay but check the size: message the seller if necessary. item 355666410329 looks ok. Skoda/Seat/Audi ones are ok. you can also find a few sellers by googling 32gb cid Sd card. I’d heard the latest vw nav file sizes were down to 15.59gb so may fit. I also had prior success in reducing the file size by deleting these folders:
\maps\00\cfg\mapcfg\SKODA
\maps\00\cfg\mapcfg\SEAT

and all language support folders in this folder except the GB one: maps\00\sds

You can also apparently jailbreak your head unit so it takes any card.

Thanks to all. Yes I had seen the thread on reducing the size of the update by removing unneeded language packs, Skoda etc. I was still left with >16GB from the last map version for Europe I downloaded so I think that does not work with the latest version maps. That post was from 2021. Waze is a good option but I don't always have data roaming in Europe.. I just wondered if anyone had encountered the idea that the latest maps/32GB card don't always work with the older Discover Media units.

Thanks for the proposals. When I delete all the unused files I am still at 16.2GB based on the downloaded current version from VW. Maybe in the UK the download site gives a slightly different map version - my site is https://www.volkswagen.ch/de/

As long as you have a card with CID it should work: we have a 2018 Cali and the 32gb MIB2 card I got from eBay works perfectly. Note that you can’t clone the CID registry from your existing card onto a standard card.
