Having introduced myself on this forum recently, we’ve had a test drive and decided that we’re going to buy a new Cali Ocean. We've had a really competitive quote from Drive the Deal and just waiting for our local dealer to confirm if he can match it before placing the order (I’m fairly certain he won’t be able to). The one concern I have is that we don’t have a driveway and so will need to leave the car on the road - although it will be in a dedicated parking area. I’ve parked my current Audi A3 in the same place for the last 3 years and it’s not come to any harm so I just have to accept the situation. I had wondered if there would be any issues with insurance, but I’ve entered my details into the LV site and been quoted £385 which seems reasonable. One of Cali owning friends mentioned the benefits of a more specialist broker to better cover contents etc and we do hope to travel extensively in Europe too. I’m not expecting delivery for 3-6 months so no hurry, but grateful for any advice on cover required and any pitfalls to be wary of.

Hi. I’m expecting my Cali Ocean in early October. My insurance experience is this. The specialist companies via camping clubs etc are all quoting £1200 plus. Including Safeguard…Some don’t touch Campervans, eg RAC and Hastings. The broker AIB is quoting £450 with Aviva. LV are quoting £480 - and are very helpful. They insure Campervan and van conversions. All our circumstances are different - I have 2 x 4 year old SPxx offences (Golf GTi licence losers…) and I’m 68. So it’s AIB or LV

Thanks, I filled out the details on the online form for a VW California Ocean but not sure it was ‘specialist’ camper van quote. I’ll double check, although with not expecting the vehicle until the new year figures will change I’m sure. My main concern was to ensure I could access reasonably priced insurance given my lack of off-road parking.

There are a number of threads covering the insurance topic. I suggest you do an advanced search and put in recent date parameters etc., and display threads. There are a couple of things to consider that are a bit different to standard car use, but previous threads cover this well.

I took Safeguard Insurance partly because they include European Breakdown cover. I know VW warranty will cover most mechanical faults but not give any extra cover for accidents, hotels etc.
