Is this common?
Worn both sides....
I'm assuming a cheap replacement but wouldn't have expected this so soon.

Those black pads are just stick on - so should find something to replace if you want too. One mine they have worn but not much more than than. " inexcess "sale (or did) felt pads you can cut to shape.

Depends on Usage. They are designed to offer some friction for the hatch. Available on eBay for very little.

I had this and tired of the hatch always working free, I got a length of adhesive Velcro strip.

2 x short 2 inch lengths. Split in to 2 parts. The smoother pieces placed adjacent in front of the existing strips, and the rougher pieces about 3 inches in front of the front bend.

Works perfectly now, with a reassuring tightness.

Had them replaced several times, but made them longer to the front. This stops opening the hatch.
For the rattling of the hatch, I taped 3 parts across the front of the hatch so it sits pushed in the sliders. The hatch doesn't move anymore.

Mine have seen better days, what is the right material to use with a sticky back
and the right size.

I have found a very thin felt tape somewhere on my work. It had been laying there unused for years. Asked if I could use it, no problem. It has just the right size. And there is still plenty on the roll for several replacements. So I am still good for years now.

It's your reward for using the van properly.... Unless you've never had the roof up and it's just the constant unwanted opening of the hatch whilst driving that's done it.
