My pop up roof is starting to come away at the front in the middle. (i.e. the fabric is coming away from where it attaches to the roof). It's a small hole right in the middle at present.

I'm after a recommendation for a VW garage to fix this.

Needs to be a specialist one that does pop-up-roofs!

My local one seems clueless and doesn't even answer the phone. When the call centre eventually replies I just get passed around....Painful.

It would be a warranty repair. I'm based in Oxford

thanks ever so much

can't you just stick it back down with some spray tack glue ? hold it in place with some gaffa tapew until it sets. ideally try and organise some way of applying force to it whilst it sticks properly using a piece of timber or something. pics also help

This sounds like the issue we had on the corner of ours. It was coming away so we pushed it back over, it happened again so when it went in for a service I mentioned it to them. One of their more experienced mechanics took a look and used some tool to push it back into place. This was November last year and it hasn't come off but I think we've only popped the top once since! The VW garage did say that if it does happen again to book it in to be looked at and they'd likely need to order new bellows, luckily we have extended warranty to would be covered under that.

We had an issue with our 2016 T6. Push in several times but came out. (corner) Replaced by main dealer only to come out 12 months later. Used Clear bathroom sealer/ mastic and pushed in myself It Has not been an issue for the past season since self-repair.

Self repair is what I read the most about this issue.
We had it a few months after receiving the new cali. Front left corner came loose. Haven't really heard of the middle coming loose yet, but apparently it's possible. Already pushed back in a few times -also by the dealer- but beware: when I did it, my hand shot through while pushing the rubber back into the trench and hurt my finger (nail) badly with as result a turned black nail fallen out some time later.
However, I also have to solve it permanently because just pushing back is not a permanent solution. I think a good glue on a suitable day will do it.

Do you have a photo @kp64zl ?
If it’s under warranty I personally wouldn’t use a 3rd party or attempt a DIY repair in the first instance.
Are you using a Bellows Bungee? If so it may be too tight? Also take it off before visiting a VW Van Centre.

Ours was coming away at the top left corner and VW Chelmsford did a great repair by replacing the bellows under warranty. Good tip Grumpy Grandad about removing the bungee, which is exactly what we did, although we are sure that was not the reason for the failure in the first place.

Agree with bungee. We had minor issues with water ingress - removed bungee and problem went.
I think it’s one of those items that has sold in 100’s due to being reasonably cheap but has no purpose if you close the roof with care.
Tin hat on :happy

Im based in Oxford too...If my Van Id take it back to the dealer I bought from...we bought ours from Reading, but your nearest VW Commercial Van centre is at Milton at A34 Junction.

The Milton dealership are not a California “specialist”, just a van centre so I wouldn’t take it there. I would go to whichever dealership gets recommended here for previous history and experience with similar issues. Locally you have Reading or Swindon.

Thanks all - for some reason this post disappeared and I couldn’t see it. Anyway looking more carefully the rubber hasn’t come away, it’s split.

VW want £1300 ish to replace the roof. Seems a lot of money for a smallish issue

I presume £1300 to replace the canvas?
Seeing as the canvas is about £700 + labour, not that unreasonable into todays circumstances.
However, I thought you said it was still under warranty?

Its under the 5 year extended warranty (4 1/2 years into it).
aparrently this is “trim” which isn’t covered under extended warranty.

yes £1350 inc vat to replace the canvas, (not the roof, that’s a typo)

Could you take a pic to see if anyone has any other suggestions as to a fix.

I thought the warranty extension, bought at purchase was exactly the same as the original “factory” warranty? I would check with VWCS.

This is hardly “trim” it is an important and integral part of the “Camper” element of the vehicle.

Agee with WG

A canvas is an integral part of camping set up, specifically designed to offer protection from the elements for many many years of use, not trim and should be fully covered under warranty-against faults .
many have had the exact same repair under warranty !

Try another dealer ?
