I can't help but notice that the design/show cars VW have produced apart from the ET have all been smaller than the Cali and either they are hinting of another niche product or a total change of thinking for the new Cali. I think the reality will be the niche product built on the MQB platform and appeal to the US market. So think of it as a retro Touran as the new Beetle is a Golf .
So the future California would surely be built on the T6 platform with the ET concept perhaps giving us a few design hints. I am also sure and I think someone mentioned this earlier that Hybrid drive would figure somehow.
Just an aside and one for James ,it also mentioned in the Which Motorhome article 105 beaches have been sold so far up to September .

That would seem logical. I guess the question then is, if the there is a retro niche microbus and a T6, and a California based on the T6, what happens with the Microbus, a camper conversion outside of VW? How could VW sell a retro microbus inspired vehicle and not call upon its campervan heritage. It's all ifs and butts and I agree, the niche product would be aimed at the American market.
Agreed with the hybrid drive, makes so much sense in a Van, though I am not convinced by the green credentials of hybrid drive, I do think it is important to explore other ways to power vehicles.
I think 105 Beaches is a reasonable number - i take it this is below VW expectations???? To be honest I am surprised VW have sold that many.
The Beach is strange for me because as bought it as a Multivan/weekend camper and I have found much more useful than expected. It's actually for more useful and practical than i imagined and perfectly fine as a daily driver.
Whether VW bring the VW Beach concept back to the UK for the next T6 or microbus remains to be seen.
If not, my next van will be LHD....
