Hi All
2011 T5 Cali. Got up one day windows wide open. Apparently sitting on keys in back pocket will do this and holding door lock button down will close them. Call that a feature?
Anyway it poured down and the interior took on water. It dried eventually but the original radio cd player is bust.
What to do? I might as well get Sat Nav, CD, radio, jack to jack. Not too fussy about bells and whistles. Any advice and any good installers in the Manchester area?

Thanks

Paul

Sounds as if the Interior Alarm is not working either.

But why should the radio fail. Surely it didn't get wet? Is it possibly just a fuse that has blown.

Hi Welsh,

Not sure about interior alarm. What do you mean?

Fuses all intact. Power going to unit as per normal. It wasn't wet but cab very damp. Is that enough or is the failure a coincidence?

Cheers

Paul

Preston ICE (in car entertainment) have good reviews and prices, and plenty experience with T5s, if you end up needing a new one.

Well, unless your year/model doesn't have an internal motion alarm then I would have thought that with both front windows open and rain ( and I presume wind blowing through ) then there would be enough air movement to trigger the alarm.

I accidentally opened my windows and the alarm didn't go off until I put my hand through the opening to prove there really was no glass there. Been open a long time too, but I guess the system is designed not to trigger if it spots flying insects/droplets of water. It's a pity the remote buttons aren't designed to only work when the key is flipped open.

I'm surprised the radio was affected, best to go into a local garage and ask them if they know an ICE specialist,it may be a coincidence and easily fixed, and I'm sure they will know the best person in the area.

If you don't like the windows opening on the key like that, and have access to someone with a VCDS you can disable it.

Thanks All,

I see what you mean re alarm. Presumably it is unlocked too if the open doors button has been held down so alarm not set?

My VW Audi man looked at it yesterday to determine it was lifeless.

Thanks for recommendations re ICE.

Paul

Some head units also have an inline fuse, not certain it does but worth a look.

Thanks again,

We checked for the fuse behind the headset, which was fine.

Looking at a new piece of kit. Preston ICE man sounds good.

Re Preston ICE.

Where are the reviews to be found? Anybody bought a head set of any description from them?

Also is it possible to add reverse parking sensor or camera to headset functionality?
Thanks
Paul

Re Preston ICE.

Where are the reviews to be found?

I think I found them through facebook chatter on the numerous t5 / cali pages I follow. There were plenty of folk chipping in with "I've had one of those fitted and it was a top job" type of comments. They were also very quick to reply to questions I'd left on their posts. Here is their facebook page with some reviews.

I think they sell a lot of Chinese high spec copies of the latest expensive stuff. Some here have bought direct from China and spent many (MANY) hours working out how to get it working as they hoped - whereas buying in Preston (for eg) means they've done it all several times already, and are rather easier to complain to if something goes wrong (although going direct to China / ebay would be cheaper).

Cannot help you about Preston Ice, but regarding the rest, YES, if you get the right unit. Kenwood seems to be almost Plug & Play.
I presume you already have factory fitted parking sensors and camera?

Sounds strange that leaving the windows open would affect the radio.

This is just a possibility that is worth checking out.

As I recall from another vehicle, opening the door would activate the 12 volts supply to the radio, so there could be a problem with the switch which works when the door is opened. Is the interior light coming on, this would be activated by the same switch?

If this is the cause, then a replacement ICE unit would suffer the same problem as it would plug into the same socket supplies behind the dash.

Thanks. Will check that out.

I'm wondering if one of the speakers has got wet and the radio, which normally has sophisticated electronics to detect shorts across the output, has detected a fault and shut itself down

Thanks for ICE tips. They are out of stock and I am in away now. I will share experience with the Preston fitters once it is all completed
