Rear dashcam fitting

Wanting to fit rear camera but not sure best option!
So Is there any non leisure battery power at rear to piggyback off which works on key so I can connect a Garmin mini 2 dashcam at rear?
Or I can wire into aux socket or direct if needed as the Garmin has no screen I can only presume it’s drawing min power so would not drain battery too badly.
Without running a cable from front to back what other options are open to me.

I have fitted a front and rear dash cam and wrote about it here. Fronts are easy. Rear are a nightmare.

I'm confused as to what you are asking for - a rear dashcam, unless on a seperate circuit usually connects to a front one which then connects to to live and switched power in the fuse box.

From your questions I'd be wary of hacking something in, both the electrics and the needed wiring routing and I'd suggest getting Halfords to fit it for you, or a more specialist installer.

Garmin mini 2 is stand alone, so does not require a wire to front of the van. Can just use the rear 12v socket for power, images get saved on SD card. Image can be viewed via mobile app.

Just had a look at it. You'd have to plug into the rear 12v, if the cable long enough, and, I guess, would not be able to mount to the window as would rip the cable out every time you opened the door. Would have to be fitted to one of the interior areas pointing out. Maybe on the offside near inner pillar.

Have front already so rather than bin a perfectly good one, going with standalone also many of the dual setups have a lower resolution rear camera and halfords would not touch/fit the cali for rear camera! Would rather have min wires showing if poss.

The only way to have no wires would be to do what I did, if fitted to the window, and route behind the rear door trim, into the door frame, up and out the rubber gaiter and once in the van then route down to the power socket. Not sure the supplied cable is long enough and it's a pig of a job. My hands still have the scars.

Locating not a problem as can feed through the main existing rubber thingy, only concern was the rear blind hence the garmin mini 2 it is tiny. main concern is battery drain! as it would be powered 100%

Sounds like you have it sorted... To answer the main Q - there is no live and switched fuse at the back so you could only connect to the 12V socket and AFAIK that is only switched so the cam will only ever work when the van key in and in the switched position.

My cam sits in front of the blind so works fine with the blind up or down.

Not sure if the double tinted glazing is going to make image too dark or distorted will only know when I try it!

Just fitted garmin mini 2 wired from socket in boot just a wire showing to rear screen, part from permanent feed will monitor power drain but should not be much!
cannot see from outside. Seems quite descrete. Not bad price with blue light card £81 compared £120 halfords.

That looks good. Did you work out if it will be constantly powered? Also, did you need to buy extra cabling or was the supplied one long enough?

comes with 2 cables long & short short one was long enough, it will be powered constantly but hoping drain will not be a problem as van is used regularly if not most days if drain is becomes a problem will have to run some power from front.
just ordered a 90 degree usb adaptor so to stop it being snagged and neaten things up..

Just an update, this camera goes into guard mode if no movement detected, have tested drain and it is negligible on a big leisure battery does not register on display panel. So feel no need for extra switched power.
Thought drop another couple of photos and can confirm goes into auto guard mode so virtually min power drain on battery after week sitting doing nothing
Bought a low profile usb socket with a 90o adaptor to minimise protrusion into boot.

How do you find the Mini 2? What's fitted in the front? Do you connect seamlessly on the Garmin app? Thanks
