RNS2 Software update

Hi all,

We have a relatively old RNS2 DVD Navigation system 2006.
Occasionally it resets right after starting the engine, and even at random moments.

I've heard from our local VW dealer that I should have 2007 software installed, because there could be a power leak from the older software on the engine battery.

I've also seen a thread on this forum that there is (other?) software that needs an update to version xx47.

I'm not sure how to correct this navigation resetting.

Are there different levels of software?
I would think that the xx47 update refers to the firmware.
How do I get this update? Would someone have a copy I can borrow?

I'm using a 2015 road DVD that I bought on eBay.
It came with update CDs, which I've done. But before and after this update the problem presists.

Any luck? Not sure yet. Found out a lot more about the system.
But I'm still confused about what system I have exactly. Meaning that there is the RNS2 and the MFD2 system, and people interchange those names.

There are different Firmware versions for these different systems; one goes to v30, the other to v50.

But I'm not sure what system I have, and no one seems to be able to tell me.

I will go to a VW garage here where I live in Belgium; they told me they had a firmware disc.

Once I got it sorted out, I'll get back to this thread.

One other problem was/is the ebay DVD I bought. I have an original 2005 DVD, and bought a 2015 ebay DVD.
The ebay DVD gives me a lot of problems. Fortunately the seller will send me a new copy.

I'll keep you posted.

PS any other tips are still welcome.
