I’m looking to trade in our T6.1 Ocean a year early on the PCP deal, so it has finance outstanding. The very easy option is back to VW but last time I checked they were offering £6k less than Motorway etc. I MAY have an option to clear the finance and sell privately, but is it worthwhile?

Any experiences you guys would like to share?

Cheers, Matt

I haven't bought and sold Calis bu I have used Motorway a number of times and have really liked it. They essentially run a dealer auction. You may not like the price that emerges - and you have the option to not sell - but it gave me confidence that the price was a fair / competitive price. Going to a single dealer you just never know. Private sales are also good in my experience - have done that a couple of times - but you have to be prepared for a bit of nonsense (callers who are clearly dealers looking to bid low and mess you about).

Seems to be a lot for sale on Autotrader at the moment. All at high prices. So might be worth a punt on motorway first see what prices are coming in. Then pop on Autotrader for a month.
Depends if you need to sell before trading it in.
What are you buying next ?

Probably an old (C6) A6 Avant. Selling to see how we get on without it and to tidy my finances a little. I should’ve bought the Beach with the 3 person back seat, I’ve fallen out of love with lots of bits of the Ocean.

Not a bad idea.
If it’s not floating your boat, then do something about it. It’s a good time to sell if the price is right and you’re in the right area.

Sell privately on the forum, if you're priced well it will go. Need to be cheaper than the competition though to go quick.

You will always get a better price privately. Ours sold on first viewing to a local family - advertised on Facebook marketplace.

I don't know if it's relevant or where you are (apologies if it's not relevant), I very recently traded a T6 Caravelle for our first California. I'd kept an eye on Caravelle prices but had obviously got mixed up with potential private prices rather than trade in, and was horrified when I got the price from the valuation websites. I ended up getting our California from an independent specialist near Penrith, and they were absolutely brilliant. I'm not a negotiator, and they gave a very fair price for the Caravelle and prepped the California brilliantly. They had a number of cars for sale, and seemed to be open to sourcing something if they didn't have what you wanted. They may therefore be able to find you an A6, or indeed a Beach. Sorry if that's a bit much, but I'd have been grateful for the recommendation when I was looking so hope it's ok to suggest it. Garage is called Braithwaites.

To start with the basics, do you know what it’s roughly worth and what the settlement figure is? This will help you decide what to do..

Have you thought about getting a trade-in price against a Beach?

I recently advertised a 2019 T6 ocean on here and auto trader, with no enquiries at all, so went to Motorway who were excellent, 1 week from initial contact to money in the bank. I think the key is being realistic on values. We’ve all riden a wave of high prices with little depreciation but given the numbers for sale the bubble may be leaking….

How trustworthy do people find Motorway? Just had a look and they state payment will be made within 24hrs AFTER they collect your vehicle!

Do VW, or other dealers, operate the same way? I'd much rather see the money transferred before handing over the keys

Just sold my BMW through motorway - money was paid by bank transfer on collection and cleared before keys handed over. Absolutely no expectation of anything else on either side.
I did have to relist the vehicle though to get to that point; a dealer who initially won the auction failed to collect the vehicle, and other than 1 email was silent for 2 weeks. Motorway cancelled the sale when pushed and put it back in the auction where it sold for significantly more money second time round.
So the process was not without issues but I found motorway to be good in communicating and when dealing with the issues, and once the second buyer was involved it was excellent with very quick collection and no attempts to reduce the price or anything like that. But remember once the auction is complete it's your buyer you deal with not motorway.

Other than a quick chat with the trade buyer I dealt entirely with Motorway, a courier collected my van who did a quick inspection then confirmed to trader all was as described. Money was then instantly transferred from Motorway before leaving the drive. Definitely don’t let your van go until money is in your account.

Same with my experience.
One thing i would say is when you "list it" , it goes in that days auction which for me was a Monday and at the end of the day the highest bid gets forwarded to you for acceptance or rejection. It's a shame you can't let the auction run for 5 days, a day doesn't seem like much time to get many offers in.

Have a look at Carwow as well. I've used them in the past for selling cars and they easily gave the best price and the selling process was seamless.

I sold my Subaru back in November via Motorway.

In my case the dealer who bought the car contacted me within minutes of the auction ending.

He arranged for a driver to collect the car the following day on the understanding that if the driver was happy with the condition, he would do an immediate bank transfer and I would check for the payment to clear before handing over the keys.

The payment duly arrived in my account within a few minutes of the phone conversation between the dealership's driver and the dealer.

So Motorway weren't involved in sending me the funds from the sale.

The whole process was very easy and I got a great price for the car. Far more than I was expecting and a lot more than the trade in price offered by Breeze.
