Have been contemplating buying one of these for some time. After looking at several one's saw the space mate V2 on campervan time video and decided to buy one, ordered online and spoke to Simon and arranged to go to his house the next day where he fitted it in a few minutes, have to say the quality is excellent and practicality fantastic only wish I had brought one earlier, highly recommended

Managed to get a couple of things that then slide with the drawer into the benchside gap.

Had to take lids off boxes but that makes sense

Seems quite a lot of money. I’ve managed with the boxes for more than 10 years but seemed like a useful addition, like shelves in the wardrobe. And it is well made.

Can’t you slide the bench seat forward and reach it from the sliding door?
Yes I wondered that but it doesn’t go far enough forward I think, from memories of trying to retrieve cuddly toys that have fallen back there in the night.

Call the AA, and busy yourself getting the wheel out of the brace. Curse a lot. If they haven’t shown up in half and hour then I would contemplate the jack

Fancy one, but £500
This is a very niche product for a very small market (us).

I bet if you divided the developer's total profit by the number of hours he's put into design and production, he's only just making minimum wage on this project.
Part of me thinks that Simon wishes this were the case!!!

Yes.

You can do either - pull sliding bench all the way forward, but you then either need very long arms or climb into the gap.

Or. Just pull the bench forward 6 inches and get in from the back. Which is what I did last week when I needed the jack when we had a puncture. I didn’t have to remove anything from the SpaceMate - I just raised the rear shelf and reached over. Super simple.

Ive got one too...it is a clever, well designed and precision bit of kit that utilises every bit of space to the mm...definitely recommend. Simon who leads this production at their works is super helpful and is passionate as has his own Cali and initially designed this to carry around his workplace heavy tools...so definitely a personal interest invested in this product.

You might find it easier to reply to the OP rather than a later reply on a different topic - makes it easier to follow the chain of conversation ;)

Thanks @dspuk - I thought I was in the original Post :) Rectified

Excuse the sales pitch. I have a CALICAP drawer for sale (£395) from my now sold Cali Ocean. Have a look at the classifieds if it's something that you may be interested in. We found it useful for easy access to stuff without the bother of unloading the boot.

Had ours a couple of months, there’s no denying the expense but superb but if kit. No arsing around in the boot dragging things out all the time it’s all the neat and tidy and accessible.

Same either with or without the drawer really - you have to take all your stuff out of the boot to get at the jack on the back of the seat.
Or take out the front bench seat rail stop so you can pull the bench further forward and access the toolkit etc from the side door :)

We’ve had ours a couple of months. A really superb addition to our new van. Makes accessing kit and stuff beneath the rear shelf extremely easy.
Simon delivered and fitted the our Spacemate, which was very kind of him - excellent service

Just back from a week in the lakes and come to the conclusion, need to organise the boot space better, a bit of a pain lifting stuff out of the way to get at items stored at the rear of the boot, also putting the stuff you lift out onto the wet muddy ground is not good. Therefore pressed the button and ordered a Space Mate to solve these issues. Not cheap, but quality looks to be excellent, saw a version 1 fitted in a demo Cali at SMG Tonbridge, when I collected my Cali last year.

10 days on the NC500 and never looked back. Ease of getting equipment in and out far surpasses the outlay. he North Face Basecamp box bag a perfect companion as a bottomless box for all the smaller items.

I fitted one this week and echo all the positive comments. Heavy duty bit of quality kit that does its job perfectly. Communication from supplier (Simon) was very good and helpful. Fitting/removal very easy. I won't miss stuffing and unstuffing gear whilst on the road. Thank you for taking the time and effort to provide an excellent product.

Just bought one of Simon’s Space Mate trays.

I contacted him first as the space mate does not natively accommodate Lafuma chairs, non negotiable! He immediately set to work thinking how he could engineer the sh*t out of the problem by changing the shape of the tray for me.

Hammer to crack a nut really but evidence of how helpful he is.

The tray is ridiculously easy to install, almost disappointingly so. Very easy to use. Thank you.

I went for the plywood partitions in the end over plastic crates. As part of the design I built a shelf for the Lafuma chairs to slide into the recess as before. An ancillary benefit is that the wedges fit in beneath the tray.
