Spirit burners not lighting

Hi

Mu first post on here and hoping someone can help!

I have a 94 California with spirit burners that I just cant get to light. Do they clog up over time? The tanks are full of mrths but no joy. There doesnt seem much information on them out there..

What I found is that the fluffy stuff inside sometimes 'crisps' over, and stops the alcohol evaporating.

Not sure what causes it, but I just attack it with a skewer every now and then to break it up and form a new fluffy top.

Hope that makes sense.
