Hello, we're heading into Europe next week and are looking for suggestions for a stopover en-route from Calais to Aachen. Just looking for 1-night, preferably with toilets (but not essential), but must feel secure and be reasonably quiet. Be nice if it was within 1-hour drive of Calais. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Cheers

Love a stopover in Ypres.
Nice spot 10mins from town centre. Great bars, restaurants, museum, Menin Gate etc.
Aldi near the site for stocking up.
From memory about 20 Euro, showers, hookup etc.

+ 1 for this site in Ypres; stayed there in March, new shower block and the other was being renovated.

I would have added Bruges as an evident stopover, apparantly too late :)

Yes Bruges would have been closer to my original planned route, but the 2 campsites I looked at were already full.

Wel, there are alternatives for that, even on my premises

Just north of Calais, there is:

National Nature Reserve Platier Oye

Camping Cars are permitted in the Layby, and you feel quite safe because both the UK and French Border Force patrol the road every couple of hours, the toilets in the nature reserve aren't locked and there is free drinking water.

The Camper Stop App has plenty of stopovers around Brugges
