T4 California Westfalia exclusive

Hi there

Just became the proud owner of a 2003 T4 California exclusive and I could really do with some help … I don’t know how to work anything ! From getting the hob/fridge to work to how the toilet works etc…anyone in the north east able to help ??

Hi there … thanks for your reply .. but the simple answer is no .. I still don’t know how to access the cassette for the toilet and don’t know how to work the night heater etc .. I could really do with a manual or handbook …

The cassette is asked by opening the very small (12") tailgate. That's opened by a central pull lever from memory. It's 6 years or so since I had mine, so memory fades.

Fridge works from the central control panel above your head in the cab. There's an snowflake symbol.
Gas is just pressing the ignition button on the hob if you can here gas hissing once you turn the knob. There is an isolator under the hob (big, red lever). Failing that, you need to go back to the gas bottle which is under the hob, under the bed extension piece that will need pulling up.

I'd say 98% of folks here have pop top Cali's, and 98% of them are VW (so T5 onwards) rather than Westy T3, T4s. Its still useful to be here, but you won't get the same response to technical questions / problems.

It has an EGR, just not a silly water cooled one.

YouTube has some great videos on most of these items. They were rental vans on the continent so businesses did YouTube guides on how things worked.

Also on eBay there are still owners workshop manuals for the exclusive. May be worth ordering one.

And then join the German forum, use Google Chrome to auto translate and they have hundreds of pages about the Exclusive and also a Wiki with more information and modifications than you'll ever need.
