Visited a Vw dealership yesterday to view a Cali T6.1 Ocean an early 2021 van with mid 26k on the clock.
Externally the paint work was unmarked however the awning rails were discoloured to the point where at first thought it was rust? On closer inspection and chatting with the salesperson we were informed it has happened due to the previous owner using a hand carwash place and the detergent used was incorrectly diluted?
I see there had been previous posts and discussions on this has anyone have a fix for this? I asked the saleperson if this could fall under a warranty replacement?
He didn't think it would but is going to ask?

Would not be a warranty item. Misuse by previous owner. Better to negotiate for them to replace in with the deal. Or just leave it and as for a few hundred extra off.

my BS radar would be twitching !

Anodising should not (will not) be affected by car detergent unless the Anodising is sub standard!

I would agree the explanation is twaddle but it is very likely the PO did something to it. Either way the chances of warranty replacing are between zero and kelvin.

The op has not bought the van yet , possibly negotiate a replacement as part of the sale ?
What does the rail on the opposite side look like ? (Awning mounted)

It’s just cosmetic, knock the price down a bit and live with it. It’s most likely a manufacturing fault.

Would be a pain to remove the old one as it’s most likely stuck on with silkaflex, which super strong adhesive and best not removed as the old residue will be a bugger to get off before attaching before sticking a new rail on…and then to would need to ensure it’s straight etc.

Clean down with Bar Keepers Friend, then if necessary:

Mask area, then black boot stain & polish?

Or mask and black felt tip?

I think our van was similar when we first saw it, the salesman took it back around to their valeting and they cleaned it up there and then with car polish. Difficult to really see in the picture though.
