T6 diesel leak - auxiliary coolant heater feed

My T6 Beach dropped a small amount of diesel whilst parked last week & has been to The Dealer today.

As it was pre-registered on 01/01/16 before I bought it with zero miles in March 2016 it's original 3-year warranty has now expired, though VW recently gave me a goodwill 50% contribution to an engine oil seal replacement in April. As this fault was a diesel leak that looked like it came from under the nearside B-pillar / passenger seat area, I fully expected it to be related to the aftermarket interior parking (air) heater that I got retro-fitted by an independent Webasto specialist & "not a VW problem".

As our friendly local general mechanic couldn't see anything at first pass I thought I'd take it to the Dealer, as it's a lot closer to home than the parking heater retro-fitter.

£85 + VAT is their standard charge for "a diagnostic", though this is knocked-off any subsequent fix. Video of 'Vehicle Health Assessment' they emailed me shows that the diesel feed to the (OEM) auxiliary coolant heater - not the (retro-fit) parking heater - had come loose & the plastic t-piece and jubilee clip needed to be replaced, surely parts worth pennies. Total cost all-in £153 - though parts / labour not itemised separately, she told me it was an hour & a half work to check & replace.



As it's not directly related to anything I've had done to the vehicle would you be asking VW HQ for a goodwill contribution on a vehicle 5-months out of warranty?

I'd expect to pay for that type of fault. Warranty isn't open ended.

I presume the £153 included the £85 + vat diagnostic.

You could ask VW but I can guess what the answer will be.

Depends on how well you get on with your dealer. Our local Vw car dealer has just replaced a rear brake caliper and handbrake switch on our golf for a token gesture of £80 all in. This is three months out of warranty.
